Free Highly Rural Transportation Program
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs awards Highly Rural Transportation Grants to states and service organizations to assist veterans who live in highly rural areas with their transportation needs to and from the VA medical centers, community based outpatient clinics, VA Community Care facilities or other approved medical appointment.
South Dakota counties that currently have this program available are as follows: Aurora, Bennett, Brule, Buffalo, Butte, Campbell, Clark, Custer, Day, Deuel, Dewey, Douglas, Edmunds, Fall River, Faulk, Gregory, Haakon, Hand, Harding, Hyde, Jackson, Jerauld, Jones, Kingsbury, Lyman, Marshall, McPherson, Mellette, Miner, Oglala Lakota, Perkins, Potter, Sanborn, Spink, Stanley, Sully, Tripp, and Ziebach.
Remember, veterans travel free.
A family member or friend can travel with the veteran.
